Abstract

In this paper we explore probable impact the versatile ClassPad 300*s eActivity may have in the future mathematics classroom. The author suggests that when suitably planned, designed and implemented, the eActivity could be the handheld technology which helps a mathematics teacher to engage her students to learn the mathematics she intended in the first place, and is the technology which the author feels bring back the &human touch* to the use of technology in the classroom. Furthermore, the author proposes that students could acquire non-intended learning experience, senses and ideas working on a good e-activity. To demonstrate such potential of eActivity, two e-activities are discussed. The first one investigates the quadratic function algebraically, and explores the construction of its graphs and solution. The second is an e-activity for the lesson in functions, where special attention is paid in determining the domain and range of 2 forms of functions. The capability to combine CAS, graphing and mathematical analysis in this second e-activity offers insight into the ClassPad 300 eActivity*s potential. Note: eActivity is a feature contained in the ClassPad 300; an e-activity is the electronic worksheet produced using this eActivity feature.
