Abstract
Since the last three years University of Indonesia has introduced
a new paradigm to improve higher order thinking skills, communication
skills, and academic writing skills by adopting learner-centered
learning, CL and PBL, and using ICT. This paper presents some findings
from applying CL/PBL for carefully selected topics in Calculus.
At the beginning, some students resist CL because lack of understanding
the philosophies of CL, they feel more confident hearing from lecturing
instead of constructing their own knowledge. Some encouraging results
are improve instructor and student interactions, students found
calculus more challenging and interesting to learn, they learned
deeper, and they understand more about the relevance of calculus
for their subsequent work in computer science.
