Functions and HP48G Graphics Calculator

Abstract

This is a beginning level workshop on the use of HP48G graphing calculator in mathematics. The focus of this workshop is to show how HP48G graphics calculator can be used as a teaching tool in teaching and learning the mathematical concept of functions. In traditional mathematics courses there is little to link the mathematics topics to other fields that require the mathematics. There is even less to link mathematics topics to real life situations. It is clear important for most students to learn mathematics in realistic and practical ways. With the help of graphics calculator, real life situations can be transformed into mathematics formats, such as graphs, tables, and formulas. In this workshop, we will introduce several real life situations and use of HP48G graphics calculator to produce the mathematics functions.
