                      Abstract
Mathematics educators can now be empowered by technology to teach more efficiently and effectively than ever before. Moreover, handheld technology likes the TI-89, and the Calculator Based Laboratory (CBL) can improve the student?s ability to learn and master fundamental and essential principles and concepts. In this presentation , Ed Connors will provide several examples of how the new handheld technology can enhance and improve the teaching and learning of mathematics. Examples will be drawn from school and collegiate curriculum.
(*) Ed Connors is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. During the academic year 1999-2000 he is a Visiting Professor at West Point.
