Abstract
The teaching of mathematics can be elevated
from the routine recitation of
pure forms and abstract relationships
to the realistic modeling of scientific
phenomena. A system of scientific
probes linked to a graphing calculator,
called the Calculator Based Laboratory
(CBL) system, provides the connection
between scientific experimentation,
data analysis and mathematical
modeling. A 1994 National Science
Foundation grant supported interdisciplinary
faculty teams to develop mathematics/science
modules utilizing the CBL and
graphing calculator technology.
