The Role of the Teacher in a Computer Algebra System Environment: Is CAS a Benefit or a Burden?

Abstract
In this presentation we first compare different approaches for learning and teaching. While the introduction of a CAS offers many promises and a real potential for the learner, it is not clear what the benefits are for the teacher. He has the non-trivial task of adapting to new constraints. We concentrate on these tasks and give examples, using Mathematica, for each kind of task required from the teacher. This work is based on personal experience and discussions with teachers.
