Abstract
DERIVE is a mathematical computer program, also called a computer algebra system (CAS). It processes algebraic variables, expressions, equations, functions, vectors, and matrices like a scientific calculator processes floating point numbers. DERIVE can perform numeric and symbolic computations, algebra, trigono-metry, calculus, and plot graphs in 2 and 3 dimensions. It is an excellent tool for doing and applying mathe---matics, for documenting mathematical work, and for teaching and learning mathema-tics. In this workshop you will learn how to use DERIVE 5. Through solving typical high school math problems, you will learn to use DERIVE 5 routinely and apply it as a tool for teaching and learning mathematics.
