Introduction

The Asian Technology Conference in Mathematics (ATCM) 2025 marks a significant milestone in the history of the conference as it is hosted in the Philippines for the first time. This year’s event adopts a hybrid format, featuring 16 invited papers and 36 contributed papers. Approximately 38% of the presentations are delivered virtually, enabling broader participation from around the globe. We are delighted to reconnect with many long-standing members of the ATCM community and equally pleased to welcome new participants who are joining us for the first time.

The contemporary landscape of mathematics education presents both challenges and opportunities. In recent years, some institutions have discontinued their Ph.D. and B.Sc. programs in mathematics, raising important questions about the discipline’s perceived relevance and future direction. At the same time, advances in artificial intelligence (AI), such as the combination of ChatGPT with the Wolfram plugin, which achieved a score of 96% on a UK A-level Mathematics examination, compel us to reconsider the rationale for pursuing mathematics as a major field of study. Several presentations at ATCM 2025 address this pressing question, offering thoughtful analyses and proposing innovative approaches to sustaining and redefining the role of mathematics education in an AI-driven era. While we are still investigating when to use or not to use the Computer Algebra System (CAS) and Dynamic Geometry System (DGS) for pedagogical purposes, it is now interesting to see that we are asking different types of questions

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all reviewers who generously contributed their time and expertise to the peer-review process. In particular, we thank Maria Alva Aberin and Debbie Marie Verzosa for their extraordinary efforts in reviewing a large number of submissions. Their dedication and scholarly rigor have been invaluable in upholding the quality and standards of the proceedings.

We warmly invite all authors and readers to contribute their research and insights to future ATCM conferences, or to consider publishing their work in the Electronic Journal of Mathematics and Technology (eJMT: https://ejmt.mathandtech.org). Selected papers from eJMT will also be considered for publication in the Research Journal for Mathematics and Technology (RJMT: http://rjmt.mathandtech.org).

Beyond its scholarly contributions, ATCM continues to serve as a vibrant platform for renewing professional relationships and forging new collaborations. We encourage you to invite your colleagues to participate in future conferences and to engage actively with this dynamic community of mathematics educators, researchers, and practitioners.

We look forward to welcoming all participants in person to ATCM 2025 in the Philippines. Further details will be announced in due course
