Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show how the powerful computer algebra system Maple V Release 5 can be used to explore and visualize with animation a selection of engineering mathematical topics in calculus, differential equations and linear algebra. Animated examples which will be discussed and shown are:

• Taylor polynomial in two variables

• Simple pendulum with numerical solution

• A system of two and three spring-coupled masses

• Reflection and transmission of a transverse pulse at the boundary of two ropes of different linear density

• The convolution product of two rectangular windows and of a rectangular window with an exponential function

• Trajectory of the dynamical system described by the difference equation
