Abstract

Traditionally, it is difficult for students understand the formula sum(k^2,k=1..n)=(1/6)*(n)(n+1)(2n+1). Many textbooks use the expression (n+1)^3-n^3=3n^2+3n+1. In this presentation, author will present an altternative way of understanding this formula using 'chips'. Author will also present a Visual Basic program written by the author to help students understand the concept of this formula.
