Abstract

An algebraic calculator is a hand-held graphing calculator which, with a built-in computer algebra system, can manipulate algebraic expressions, differentiate and integrate functions symbolically, solve equations for real and complex roots etc. Given their functionality and portability, algebraic calculators have been widely used by mathematics educators in many countries in enhancing teaching and learning of mathematics at various levels. This is a hands-on workshop to explore the capabilities currently available and to consider their significance for the mathematics curriculum and teaching methods and assessment. Participants will use Texas Instrument¡¯s Voyage 200. No previous experience with this or other graphing calculators will be assumed.
