Abstract

This hands-on workshop will highlight some ways in which a Casio fx-9860G graphics calculator can make a distinctive and positive contribution to mathematics teaching and learning around the final years of secondary school. A graphics calculator can be used to focus attention on mathematical concepts in algebra, statistics, probability and calculus rather than on the associated mathematical skills. Workshop participants will investigate a range of examples illustrating how access to this personal technology can make a positive difference to the student learning experience, providing opportunities to learn that were not previously available. Previous graphics calculator experience will not be assumed or necessary.
